But I'm Too Old to Start a Business!
That is one things some seniors and older people say when I ask if they've ever considered starting a business. People have this idea that it takes a lifetime to properly build a business. And that's true if you're talking about a standard business model. Few seniors have the desire or for that matter the time to start a new business from scratch; or from just an idea.
That's why I often recommend a network marketing business to any senior or older person who is interested in starting a business but may think he or she doesn't have the time left for that. For one thing, we're going to be living longer thanks to modern medicine. So there will be more time left than you might think.
Furthermore, a network marketing business is like a franchise business in that much of the work that typically goes along with building a business has already been done for you. These would include such things as researching and developing the product, getting the supplier / manufacturer arrangement in place, and getting product fulfillment established. This removes a lot of the barriers that generally exist in starting a business.
At the same time, a network marketing business (unlike a franchise business) has a low cost of entry. The most expensive network marketing company I've heard of costs about $1500 to join. Most of them however are much less than that; usually a few hundred dollars. Even the most expensive one pales by comparison to the start up costs of a franchise business.
Since much of the groundwork has already been laid for the business in a network marketing business, the older person can build it up to profitability faster. That's not to say they are 'get rich quick' deals, but realistically a person can build a profitable network marketing company in less than a year. Do you still think you're too old?
