Home Based Business for Seniors

Seniors Should Start a Business and Forget about Job Hunting

If you are in your fifties or sixties, you probably remember better days. But you might also remember that there were not so great times in the past. There were serious recessions in the 1970's and 1980's. But during those times, we were younger and we knew could weather the storms. We felt a sense of hope that things would get better. We knew that those were just cycles.

This time around, it's a bit different. That hope really isn't there now and there is a sense that things have changed forever. There is a sense that the usual cycles of recessions and boom times are past us. Let's face it: jobs have been lost that are not coming back. Many reasons are behind this, but mainly technology has made many jobs obsolete and many jobs have gone overseas.

For young people - people with lots of time left on their calendars - this usually means that they might be able to retrain and re-educate themselves for a different kind of job. But for baby boomers and seniors, this is not always the best option. For one; retraining takes time - often many years to train to a level needed for a career job. Also, we simply don't have the time to 'start at the bottom' again and work our way up in a field. This is not being pessimistic, it's simply realistic.

This is why I believe that baby boomers and seniors who need to earn a living should forget about job hunting and turn their attention toward starting a business. Starting a business, particularly a network marketing business, will require no significant additional training or retraining. It will however, require a change in mindset.

Let's face it - whichever way you go (job hunting or your own business) you are going to have reinvent yourself. It's usually far easier (and less time consuming) to reinvent yourself for a home based business than it is for a new career.
